JACKSON, Wyo. — See that dark blur darting across the snowy terrain?
Buckrail reader Matthew Moran spotted a wolverine scampering up Huckleberry Hill, the boundary between Grand Teton National Park and the John D. Rockefeller Memorial Parkway.
The famously elusive mammal is rarely photographed. When wolverines were granted federal protections under the Endangered Species Act in 2023, scientists estimated that roughly 300 of the animals remain in the lower 48.
Drivers headed through the Rockefeller Parkway on their way to use Yellowstone National Park’s recently opened South Entrance should keep an eye out for wolverines and other animals near the roadways.
