JACKSON, Wyo. — As the seasons transition from winter to spring, wildlife-watching opportunities are abundant in the valley. Buckrail photographer Nick Sulzer encountered a great gray owl on the hunt outside the boundaries of Grand Teton National Park this week.
According to the National Park Service, the great gray owl is the tallest owl in North America, and it sports the longest wingspan. Males hunt voles and other small rodents during daylight hours, making them easier to spot than some other species of owl.
Sulzer has a knack for spotting the great gray. Check out his photos of an owl stare-down, a pleasant perch in the Gros Ventre, a sunbather and a hunting expedition.
