WILSON, Wyo. — Heads up, skiers and drivers! Starting today, Dec. 4, the Wyoming Department of Transportation (WYDOT) and local crews will be clearing vegetation near WY390 (the Village Road) to improve visibility in an effort to reduce wildlife collisions. The work is scheduled to last for three to four days during daylight hours, weather dependent.

Work will be done from the Stilson parking area to the Aspens subdivision on both sides of the road.

“The Teton County Commissioners recently spoke with WYDOT about clearing the right-of-way, due to public concern about rising moose-vehicle collisions,” WYDOT Resident Engineer Bob Hammond said in a statement. “These companies are not under contract by WYDOT but have volunteered to get it done. They are very experienced in this type of work and have the right equipment to get it done.”

Those joining in on the work include Aardvark Excavation, Feuz Excavation, VH Builders and Western States Cat Rental. The companies have offered to donate time, equipment and materials to clear the vegetation, per WYDOT.

Crews expect to clear shrubs and willows and in some areas will clear more than 25 feet from the fog line. The county has authorized the closure of the bike path along WY390 while work is underway. Drivers are asked to reduce their speeds, stay alert and be aware of roadside workers and activity.
