WILSON, Wyo. — Teton County provided an update on the pathway construction at the Wilson Elementary underpass, part of the larger Wilson Pathway project currently underway along the WY22 corridor.

The pathway will run from Stilson Transit Center, under a new underpass being built at Green Lane, along the south side of WY22 and then under a second underpass east of Wilson Elementary. A pedestrian bridge over Fish Creek will also be built.

According to the Facebook post, this week, trees were removed along the north side of WY22, topsoil was stripped from both shoulders and hauled to the Stilson staging area, embankment materials were imported and the area for a box culvert was dug. In the coming weeks, topsoil will be screened at the staging area, more embankment and pit materials will be brought in and a rough grade of the pathway alignment will be done.

The project is aimed at creating a pathway connection for folks that live or recreate on the south side of HWY 22, including connections to the Snake River Bridge pathway and Moose Wilson Road.

Construction began in June and the pathway from the east side of Fish Creek to Stilson Transit Center should be completed by Oct. 31. The entire pathway project is slated for completion by May 2024.

The total project cost is estimated at about $3.4 million. Funds are available in the FY23 budget and additional funds to complete the project are proposed for FY24 budget, including BUILD grant reimbursement at 40%, with the remainder proposed to be paid out of the 2022 Transportation Alternatives SPET funds. Voters approved over $15 million in funding for the SPET item.
