JACKSON, Wyo. — Does anyone fancy a float down the Snake?
Due to a low snowpack in the valley, and with support from the Snake River Fund (SRF), boat ramps in Wilson and South Park will open for river access early this year. According to a news release from the Teton County/Jackson Parks and Recreation Department, the two Snake River access points are scheduled to open Monday, March 16.
“Down river established access and exit points located in Bridger-Teton National Forest are not on the same schedule as Teton County, and early-season access below South Park boat ramp will be limited,” reads the press release.
In coordination with SRF, Parks & Rec plans to clear access roads and ramps on Monday morning, with river access opening in the afternoon. The announcement states that SRF will maintain restroom access and general facilities until April 15, when Parks & Rec staff begins seasonal operations. River users should expect to carry out all garbage until the ramps are fully opened for the season on April 15.
Recreationists are reminded that early season conditions exist, including cold water, unpredictable weather and unnavigable channels. Boaters are asked to wear life jackets, respect wildlife and river resources, and avoid private property.
