JACKSON, Wyo. — Early childhood education is a critical foundation for students between the ages of three and five. These formative years of education help shape a student’s experience of school and learning.
Becca Williams from Teton Literacy Center knows that it is essential to make the first experience of learning positive and exciting for young students. Moreover, it is critical to parents that their preschool aged children are safe, well cared for and happily engaged in learning activities while they are at work
“Early childhood education in particular can be really inaccessible in this community and a lot of preschools are really expensive and it’s not a part of the public school system in this state,” says Williams.
Williams recently sat down with one of her young students, Harper, to discuss why early childhood education is such a special and meaningful profession. Harper beamed and spoke proudly about learning through play with her friends and teachers and exclaimed that she is excited to come to school everyday.
“My first day of school we had lots of fun and we helped everybody in the classroom so now I have new friends,” Harper said. “I never had friends, but now I do!”
Early childhood is a critical time for educators to provide a positive and exciting first experience of learning that can last a lifetime. Resources that provide access to affordable and accessible early childhood education can help early childhood education professionals ensure that all children have equal opportunities for success.
