JACKSON, Wyo. — Whether launching a new career or building on existing experience, individuals with a passion for food can enroll in Central Wyoming College’s Culinary Arts program with spring registration now open. The college’s Culinary Arts program offers hands-on training, industry experience, and flexible pathways designed to prepare graduates for success in the culinary and hospitality industry.
The Associate of Applied Science (AAS) in Culinary Arts prepares students for a wide range of mid-level positions in professional kitchens, hospitality operations, and food service settings. The program’s unique curriculum blends full-length semester courses with condensed offerings, creating a dynamic learning experience that mirrors the fast-paced nature of the industry.
“Our goal is to prepare students for real kitchens and real careers,” said Justin Stone, Director of Hospitality and Culinary programs. “From foundational techniques to understanding the culture and business of food service, students graduate with skills they can use immediately.”
In addition to degree-seeking options, CWC’s Culinary Arts program offers opportunities for community members to enroll in classes for non-credit, personal enrichment, or non-degree-seeking professional development. These flexible options allow individuals to explore culinary skills, enhance current job performance, or gain industry-relevant training without committing to a full degree program.
Core culinary courses emphasize practical, hands-on learning in professional kitchen environments. Students develop fundamental cooking skills, explore diverse cuisines and food styles, and gain an understanding of the history and operations of the service trades. General education coursework builds critical and analytical thinking, communication skills, and business knowledge essential for long-term career growth.
Students are highly encouraged to participate in industry work experiences, allowing them to gain real-world skills, build professional relationships, and explore multiple career paths within the culinary and hospitality fields.
In addition to the degree program, CWC offers Culinary Arts Certificates. These certificates are designed to meet students where they are, whether they are just entering their culinary careers or want to advance their skills as industry professionals. Certificate programs are ideal for students seeking a faster entry into the workforce or advancement to the next level.
Full-semester classes and some 8-week culinary classes start Jan. 20 at CWC Jackson. The second condensed culinary semester begins March 16. Enrollment is rolling; however, students planning to start January 20 are encouraged to enroll by the prior week.
Graduates and current students of CWC’s Culinary Arts program have worked and continue to work in a wide range of respected restaurants, resorts, and hospitality venues throughout the region, including Amangani, Annie’s Thai Kitchen, Atelier Ortega, Bin22, CRT Catering, Four Seasons, Glorietta Trattoria, Hampton Inn Jackson Hole, Hotel Jackson, Jackson Hole Mountain Resort, Kampai, Legacy Lodge, Pearl Street Market, Pinky G’s Pizzeria, Snake River Grill, Snake River Sporting Club, Snow King Resort, Spring Creek Ranch, Teton Science School, Teton Tiger, The Cloudveil, The Local, The Virginian Lodge, The White Buffalo Club, The Wort, and Three Creek Ranch.
