JACKSON, Wyo. —  On Tuesday, Feb. 6, the Jackson/Teton County Affordable Housing Department in partnership with Voices Jackson Hole announced its commitment to increase access to affordable housing for local immigrant families.

Extending services to immigrant segments of the community will help ensure that marginalized households are registered to apply for upcoming housing opportunities.

“Here in Teton County, we have a large immigrant community that has historically struggled to access affordable housing opportunities,” Executive Director of Voices Jackson Hole Jordan Rich said in a statement. “This outreach project seeks to mitigate those barriers by meeting people where they are at with the tools and the answers they need to successfully navigate the local affordable housing system.”

According to Voices, community organizers will conduct outreach to immigrant households from 21 countries speaking 17 different languages, and will work one-on-one with the heads of households to break down barriers, such as language and technology, which have previously impeded access to affordable housing applications. Outreach began Feb. 1 and will continue for three months, culminating in a community housing celebration this summer.

“The Housing Department consistently strives to improve access to our programs for local workers and their families who are seeking safe, stable, affordable housing,” Housing Director April Norton said via press release.
