JACKSON, Wyo. — The Teton County Department of Planning and Building Services is asking for community members to help amend the updated draft of the Natural Resources Overlay (NRO), a map outlining Natural Resources Land Regulations in Teton County. The draft will be available for review and comment through the public hearing process, which is anticipated to run through November.
Public comment will assist Teton County in amending Land Development Regulations (LDRs) or building regulations on Teton County’s zoning map. According to Teton County, the NRO has updated regulations to protect water, wetlands and wildlife habitat from the impacts of development. The purpose of the project is to use the best available science, including vegetation and habitat maps, to better preserve the valley’s natural resources.

The project will also provide greater predictability to property owners about what building standards apply to them. The NRO outlines the development application process in Teton County by identifying the specific LDRs of each region or tier, which are labeled as base, mid and high-level for natural resources protection.
“The purpose and intent of the tiered habitat protection standards are to provide a greater level of analysis and protection to properties with the most natural resources present and lesser levels of analysis to properties with fewer natural resources present,” according to the updated NRO document.
To review the draft or share a comment, see the Joint Long Range Planning website at jacksontetonplan.com. The County is asking the public to provide comment prior to the Planning Commission public hearing on Monday, Oct. 14. The meeting will begin at 6 p.m. at the County Administration Building in Jackson (200 South Willow Street). Zoom will also be available as an option to participate during the meeting. The Board of County Commissioners is scheduled to hear the item during its regular meeting on Nov. 19.
