JACKSON, Wyo. — Teton County Search & Rescue (TCSAR) had quite a busy day on Thursday, Feb. 22, according to the agency.
TCSAR’s first call came in just before noon, when a snowboarder crashed between two bootpacks in the Four Pines area of Jackson Hole Mountain Resort (JHMR). JHMR Ski Patrol responded first, then requested a helicopter assist from TCSAR, which they provided. The 46-year-old woman was loaded into the helicopter and flown to the TCSAR hangar, where a Jackson Hole Fire/EMS ambulance awaited her.
The second call came in two hours later, when a 19-year-old male snowmobiler crashed into a tree in the Togwotee Pass area. The TCSAR helicopter picked up two Grand Teton National Park (GTNP) rangers at Windy Point before heading to the K Trail east of Mount Leidy. Due to intermittent weather, additional TCSAR volunteers and a U.S. Forest Service ranger approached the accident on snowmobiles, TCSAR said. The helicopter team found a landing opportunity around 3:20 p.m., when they loaded the snowmobiler onboard and transported him to the Forest Service’s Blackrock Ranger Station, where a GTNP ambulance waited.
“On busy days like this, it’s important to recognize and give thanks to the multiple partnering agencies across Teton County who help the team respond to rescues, as well as the families and partners of TCSAR volunteers who scramble to hold down the fort while their loved ones go into the field,” TCSAR wrote on Facebook. “We appreciate you.”
