The source of inspiration is the Lamar Valley Region of the Yellowstone National Park in Wyoming where Arturo photographs and sketches bison in their natural habitat. The technique used in this painting is a pallet knife relief technique where thick layers of oil paint were applied to create a 3D effect in parts of the painting.
