JACKSON, Wyo. — Enjoying the Milan Cortina Olympics? Get into the Olympic spirit here in Jackson next week by volunteering with the Special Olympics Wyoming’s State Winter Games.
The Winter Games will run from Tuesday, Feb. 24, through Thursday, Feb. 26, and will include competitions in alpine skiing, cross-country skiing, snowboarding and snowshoeing. More than 200 athletes from around Wyoming and neighboring states will compete. Events will unfold at various venues in the valley including Jackson Hole Mountain Resort, Jackson Hole High School, the Teton County Fairgrounds, the field near Summit Innovations School and the Elks Lodge.
The nonprofit is seeking volunteers to time events, serve lunch and award medals.
“Each winter, Special Olympics Wyoming depends on the generosity of Jackson and the surrounding communities to engage in this statewide competition event by volunteering a portion of their time to ensure that these athletes, Unified Sports partners, coaches, friends, families and volunteers visiting Jackson from throughout Wyoming experience a first-rate, memory making event,” Special Olympics Wyoming stated in a news release.

“Everyone deserves a chance at a happy and purposeful life, yet people with intellectual disabilities face doubt, barriers, and low expectations,” the nonprofit’s website states. “For many, Special Olympics is the only place where they find an opportunity to participate in their communities, develop belief in themselves, and feel like champions.”
