JACKSON, Wyo. — The beautiful weekend weather didn’t stop when the sun went down.

Buckrail reader Sean Robertson sent in this wonderful shot of the Northern Lights glowing over Jackson in the wee hours of Sunday, June 1. Robertson noted that he was watching the sky from Antelope Flats Road on the east side of Blacktail Butte.

The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration’s (NOAA) Space Weather Prediction Center reported a strong geomagnetic storm occurring over the past several days. The aurora borealis becomes visible due to collisions between fast-moving electrons and oxygen and nitrogen gases in the Earth’s atmosphere.

This is not the first time a reader has sent in an impressive northern lights photo. Last year, a severe geomagnetic storm illuminated skies over the Tetons, which yielded killer shots.
