JACKSON, Wyo. — Record warmth this month has pulverized most snow at lower elevations, and now it’s working its magic on frozen bodies of water.
Buckrail photographer Nick Sulzer checked in on Jackson Lake and Snake River conditions on Wednesday, and he found that ice is receding from shorelines already.

“The warm spell experienced over the past week has been particularly extreme,” Buckrail Meteorologist Alan Smith wrote Wednesday.
“A strong ridge of high pressure set up over the Western U.S. last week, and this high-pressure ridge was more than three standard deviations above average for this time of year, meaning it was above the 99.7th percentile for this time of year historically,” Smith continued.

The ice covering Slide Lake does not look like it will stick around much longer, either.
