YELLOWSTONE NATIONAL PARK — There’s nothing like a fresh blanket of snow to allow for a wild pop of color.

National Park Service photographer Jacob W. Frank spotted this red fox prowling around Yellowstone National Park (YNP) this month.

Foxes are not only more visible against a blanket of fresh snow; in winter, red foxes are likely to be more active around dawn and dusk, and even in broad daylight.

During the rest of the year, these nocturnal mammals tend to forage alone, traveling along the edges of meadows and forests.

Watch for red foxes in YNP, Grand Teton National Park, and all over Jackson Hole. Just be sure to keep an eye on shoes and other aromatic belongings.
