JACKSON, Wyo. — Street parkers, listen up! Overnight parking on town streets returns on Tuesday, April 15.
At midnight on April 15, the winter parking restrictions forbidding parking between the hours of 3 and 7 a.m. will be lifted. During the summer months, cars are permitted to be parked up to 72 hours at a time on public streets, excluding the downtown area, where signs are posted in three-hour parking zones.
Ahead of the seasonal change, the Town of Jackson (TOJ) is reminding community members to make way for street crews.
“As temperatures warm, the Town’s plow crew quickly shifts from snow maintenance to street sweeping to ensure our streets are clean and clear for the upcoming months,” TOJ said in a Tuesday press release. “One of the most important reasons for comprehensive street sweeping is to protect local water. Preventing sediment, hydrocarbons and garbage from entering our world class watershed is a responsibility the Town takes seriously.”
TOJ is urging residents to keep the right-of-way clear for the next week to facilitate street crew work, requesting that trash cans be kept off of streets and sidewalks until 7 a.m. or close to trash pick-up time. TOJ also asks drivers to give street sweepers plenty of space, as this equipment is larger than other vehicles, and operators can’t always see what is on the ground near them and might move erratically.
“Throughout the summer months, everyone can continue to help by moving vehicles and shifting overnight parking spots,” TOJ’s release reads. “Street sweeping continues throughout the summer and fall. The Town appreciates the communities’ efforts and everyone working together to maintain clean, safe streets.”
Overnight parking restrictions will return in November.
