DRIGGS, Idaho — This winter, the heart of Teton Valley will once again thunder with hooves, skis, and cheering crowds as Teton Valley Skijoring hosts its annual skijoring event — an electrifying fusion of Western horsemanship and alpine sport that transforms a cold-weather weekend into a can’t-miss community celebration.
Skijoring pairs a horse and rider with a skier, racing down a snow-packed course while navigating gates, jumps, and technical features. The result is a fast-paced, uniquely Western spectacle that draws competitors, families, and spectators from across the Mountain West.
Beyond the race course, the event delivers a full winter festival atmosphere. Spectators can explore a craft vendor village featuring local and regional makers, enjoy a lineup of food trucks, and grab drinks while watching the action from trackside. The event is designed to be accessible and welcoming, whether you’re a lifelong horse person, a skier, or someone simply looking for something exciting to do in the long winter months.
A bridge between two communities
At its core, Teton Valley Skijoring is about connection. The event brings together two cultures that define the region — the ranching and rodeo community and the skiing and outdoor recreation community — creating a shared experience rooted in place, tradition, and modern mountain culture.
“Our goal has always been bigger than the race itself,” said Bridget Sweeney, Executive Director of Teton Valley Skijoring. “We want to give people something to look forward to in winter and create an event that feels authentically local, welcoming to families, and exciting for everyone who comes out.”
Part of the PRO Skijor Frontier Tour
This year, Teton Valley Skijoring is proud to serve as an official stop on the PRO Skijor Frontier Tour, a premier professional circuit showcasing top skijoring teams from across the region.
As the final stop on the tour before the Frontier Tour Finals in Salt Lake City, the Teton Valley event plays a pivotal role in the season, with professional teams competing for placement, points, and momentum heading into the championship finale. Elite-level competition will be featured alongside sport, novice, youth, and women’s divisions, highlighting both the professional future and grassroots roots of the sport.Event Details
