JACKSON, Wyo. — This week, the public will begin to see more changes at the Teton County/Jackson Recreation Center due to Phase I of the Recreation Center Expansion Project.

Beginning Wednesday, June 17, construction crews will start work in the former lobby and entrance area, subsequently blocking through traffic. As a result, all public access will be in and out of the south doors, located near the old sun deck.

The lobby and Jackson Hole Cupboard satellite pantry have already been moved to the swimming pool waiting area and many staff offices have been relocated.

Then then the following week (June 22), crews will begin to install a construction fence around parking areas that are impacted.

“The public should plan to use the parking lots at Jackson  Elementary School or the Jackson Home Ranch Welcome Center to park vehicles,” said the county in a press release.

The expansion project is expected to take approximately 20 months.

The renovation and expansion project will include a new gym, elevated walking and running track, climbing gym, multi-purpose fitness studio, cardio studio, health consultation rooms, drop-in daycare, multi-purpose rooms, classrooms, and study lounges. Outdoor projects include a zero-depth splash pad and patio, outdoor bouldering wall, and outdoor playground.

On Nov. 5, 2019, voters approved the Teton County/Jackson Recreation Center Expansion and Renovation, Community Climbing Gym, King Street Extension, and Stormwater Treatment proposal for $22,000,000 as part of a 1% Specific Purpose Excise Tax (SPET) on goods and services.

At the end of April, town and county officials approved additional funding for the project, a guaranteed maximum price of $33,663,002. TCJPRD Director Steve Ashworth said the additional funds were needed due to an increase in the scope of the project and substantial construction cost increases since 2019.

To stay updated on changes to programs, altered hours of operations, disruption of services and parking closures, visit Teton County’s new public engagement site. Staff and the construction team will post weekly information to the site, which will also include the construction management plan and illustrations of how the Recreation Center will appear once the expansion is complete.
