JACKSON, Wyo. — Teton County/Jackson Parks and Recreation is facing challenges with prepping and grooming ice rinks and trails due to the slow start to winter.
A press release sent out by Parks and Rec on Tuesday afternoon stated that staff took advantage of recent cold temperatures and snowfall to begin building ice rinks at Owen Bircher Park and the Teton County Fairgrounds. However, with warmer temperatures expected toward the end of this week, the agency is unable to provide an estimated opening date for either rink.
Crews were able to groom Cache Creek on Tuesday morning and were still assessing conditions at Game Creek. With downed trees on some portions of the trail as well as thin snow coverage, cross-country skiers are asked to use caution when recreating. Tree removal was expected to take place Wednesday, Dec. 31.
“Residents are encouraged to check the Parks and Recreation website and social media pages for updates,” reads the statement.
Trail grooming updates can be found on the Parks and Rec website and on the Jackson Hole Nordic Alliance website.
