JACKSON, Wyo. — The Town of Jackson has announced that the public parking garage at Millward St. and Simpson Ave. will begin charging overnight parking fees beginning on June 25.

Parking in the garage will cost $3 per hour between midnight and 4 a.m., and will remain free of charge outside of those hours, the Town announced.

Everyone entering the garage will have to collect a ticket from a new kiosk with a boom gate arm system. Customers who are parked in the garage during those specified hours will pay by credit card at exit stations.

“The current fees of $3 an hour and up to $12 to park overnight is a pilot rate,” the Town’s announcement reads.

To prepare for the new system, the garage will close at 10 a.m. on Monday, June 23, for installation of the ticketing equipment, and for cleaning and restriping. As such, all vehicles parked in the garage must vacate by that closure time.

The garage will re-open to drivers at 3 p.m. on June 25, with the ticketing arm in place.

“These changes are intended to deter unauthorized uses of the parking garage to, ideally, help ensure it is available for locals, workforce, visitors and customers of businesses in Town,” the announcement reads. “The Town and Police Department have been dealing with enforcement and sanitary issues in the garage. It was being used as storage for commercial vehicles when commercial use is not permitted and misused for overnight camping.”

Town Council had been mulling the parking fees since last year, originally proposing to enforce the prices starting at 10 p.m. at a rate of $2 per hour. Council hammered out further details to the pilot policy earlier this month.
