PINEDALE, Wyo. — The Bridger-Teton National Forest (BTNF) announced on Tuesday, June 10, that the Pinedale Ranger District has installed temporary electric fencing along the Union Pass Road in Sublette County to help restore the area that was impacted by the Pack Trail Fire.
Last fall, BTNF reported that the Pack Trail Fire burned approximately 89,930 acres on the BTNF and Shoshone National Forest. According to the Wyoming Weed and Pest Council, scorched areas need time to recover and regrow wildlife after a wildfire.
BTNF wrote in the announcement that crews working on the fencing project installed approximately 7 miles of electric fence adjacent to the Union Pass Road. The area of work is roughly from Buffalo Meadows to Leeds Creek.
“This temporary fencing is needed so we can manage the grazing activity in the area,”
Rangeland Management Specialist Gary Hayward said in the announcement. “The temporary fence will be in place for approximately two grazing seasons.”
Hayward said that people will still be able to access the Forest around the temporary fence, and the general use of the area will be similar to previous years.
Access routes designated on the motor vehicle use maps for the BTNF will be available for motorized travel through the fenced area. In addition to the fence installation, the forest will also continue with early detection and rapid response to any noxious weeds in the area, per the press release.
