ALPINE, Wyo. — A tractor-trailer truck overturned early this morning in the Snake River Canyon just north of Alpine, but no injuries were reported and the incident did not impede highway traffic.

According to Alpine Fire Department’s Fire Chief Mike Vogt, a call came in around 5 a.m. about an overturned tractor-trailer near mile marker 124 on US26 through the canyon. Alpine Fire responded with one engine and one rescue truck. Though the driver was uninjured, Star Valley Health took him to the emergency room in Alpine to get checked out. Vogt confirmed that there were no other vehicles involved, and the truck overturned off the road in a ditch to the north of the highway.

“It just came around the corner and did something that made him go off the road and into the ditch,” Vogt told Buckrail. “Luckily it was that side of the mountain, it wasn’t the river side.”

Vogt noted that the vehicle is a box truck full of material; it is not a tanker and there was no fuel spilled. A crane will likely be needed to place the truck upright before it can be towed away. This could trigger a road closure sometime on Wednesday, though the timing was unknown as of publication time.

With the new snowfall, drivers are urged to use caution on roadways.
