JACKSON, Wyo. — Emergency responders converged on the Teton County Trash Transfer Station Tuesday night to fight a towering blaze that remains under investigation.
“Several” 911 callers reported seeing heavy black smoke, flames and explosions outside of the Trash Transfer Station starting at 6:28 p.m. on Tuesday, according to a press release issued by Jackson Hole Fire/EMS. Callers described a semi-truck on fire on the facility’s north side, with some noting that the engulfed truck was “dangerously close to a pile of tires” and to the transfer building.
Law enforcement officers arrived on scene first, confirming that two semi-trucks without trailers were on fire, along with a pickup truck.
“No occupants were found inside any of the vehicles,” the press release states.
Fire/EMS officers and Engine 11 arrived at the scene by 6:40 p.m. A total of 16 personnel contained the flames using two engines, a water tender and an ambulance. Crews succeeded in protecting nearby structures and containing the blaze by 6:48 p.m., when the fire was declared under control.
All three trucks involved in the fire were declared a total loss. The cause of the fire remains under investigation, per the press release.
