JACKSON, Wyo. — From Jan. 26 through March 23, the Teton County Library will bring back its “Foreign Policy Discussion Series” on Monday nights from 6 to 7:30 p.m. in the Ordway Auditorium. The series will cover eight separate topics, from tariffs to the risk of nuclear proliferation. Interested participants can also join via Zoom.
Each week, participants can read regarding the topic to be discussed to prepare for the meetings and to engage in discourse. A 25-minute video will also be presented at the beginning of discussion. The series is part of the Foreign Policy Association’s Great Decisions, which is America’s largest discussion program on world affairs.
“Foreign policy discussions are a great way for our community to engage in civil discourse about topics that affect us, though we may be further removed from their impact,” said library Adult Program Coordinator Leah Shlachter. “By doing readings in advance of the meetings, participants have a basic understanding of the topics and contribute to the discussions in a more knowledgeable way.”
Registration is not required, and participants are welcome to join for the entire series or for any topic they find interesting. The Alta branch will cover the same topics on Wednesdays from 6 to 7:30 p.m. starting Jan. 28.
There will not be a discussion group on Monday, Feb. 16, as the library will be closed for Presidents Day.
The topics for the series are as follows:
- Jan. 26: America and the world— Trump 2.0 foreign policy
- Feb. 2: Trump tariffs and the future of the world economy
- Feb. 9: U.S.-China relations
- Feb. 23: Ruptured alliances and the risk of nuclear proliferation
- March 2: Ukraine and the future of European security
- March 9: Multilateral institutions in a changing world order
- March 16: U.S. engagement of Africa
- March 23: The future of human rights and international law
Assigned articles can be borrowed at the main desk to read within the library.
