JACKSON, Wyo. — On Dec. 6, Jackson Hole Athlete Anna Gibson and USA Skimo partner Cam Smith, of Crested Butte, Colorado, secured a spot at the 2026 Winter Olympics when they won the mixed relay ski mountaineering World Cup race at Solitude Mountain Resort in Utah. The pair finished in 32 minutes, 17.6 seconds.
Prior to the event, Canada was one point ahead of the United States in standings. To make it to the 2026 Winter Olympics and represent North America, Gibson and Smith had to beat Canada.
“This whole thing is crazy,” Gibson said in a post-race interview according to the Jackson Hole News&Guide. “It feels like a dream.”
There are now two Teton County athletes going to the 2026 Winter Olympics in Milano Cortina, Italy. Jaelin Kauf of Alta, Wyoming, will compete in her third Olympics in the Dual Moguls event this February.
