WYOMING — The Wyoming Department of Health has informed residents on how to obtain copies of birth, death, marriage and divorce certificates.

The WDH is only able to issue certified copies of certificates for events that occurred in the state of Wyoming. Wyoming is a closed record state and only certain parties are allowed to request certificates. For more information on entitlement, see the specific page for each type of certificate.

For online requests:

A Certified Copy of a Wyoming Certificate can be requested online using a credit card. There will be a 2.4%, $1 minimum convenience fee charged for every order placed. If the event occurred in Wyoming, residents can request a record on the Wyoming Vital Records Portal. To place an order, log in to the online portal by clicking on “Sign Up” and then create a profile.

Once logged in, select the type of certificate that is needed, and be sure to enter information in all of the required fields. Attach an image of a valid government issued ID to process the order or contact the WHD office at 307-777-7591 for more information on how to obtain a certificate without a valid government ID.

To have a certificate sent back by means other than first class mail, attach a pre-paid label for FedEx or UPS. The label should list address as both the sender and the addressee.

For mail requests:

To request an official birth, death, marriage and divorce certificate by mail, go here, and then click on one of the boxes to find the specific requirements for the type of certificate needed.

Certificate requests must include a current photocopy of a driver’s license, state ID card or passport of the person requesting the certificate. A notarized signature of the person making the request is also accepted. If the person named on the certificate doesn’t have ID, a parent who has ID may request the certificate.

The fee for obtaining official Wyoming certificates by mail is $25. Review a certificate’s requirements to see if additional charges apply. Certificate applications should be submitted along with the fee. Money orders or a bank-personalized check are made payable to Vital Statistics Services. Enclose a self-addressed, stamped envelope with the request.

The mailing address to send certificate requests is: Vital Statistics Services, 2300 Capitol Avenue, Hathaway Building, Cheyenne, WY, 82002.
