JACKSON, Wyo. — Playful and deeply constructed songs with varying moods and modes, Kittel & Co is aptly described by Bluegrass Situation as having “accomplished a feat of new acoustic, string band-rooted chamber music…whimsical, alluring and magnificent.” Grand Teton Music Festival presents the quintet this Wednesday at the Center Theater.
Led by GRAMMY-nominated composer/violinist Jeremy Kittel, this is a collective of next-gen virtuosos. They’ve graced the stage at Telluride Bluegrass Festival, Celtic Connections (UK), National Folk Festival – and their debut album, Whorls, climbed into to the top 10 on the Classical Billboard charts while also claiming the No. 1 on the Bluegrass chart. The current lineup includes mandolin phenom Josh Pinkham (named “the future of the mandolin” by Mandolin Magazine), bassist Jacob Warren (first place in the 2023 Int’l Society of Bassists Soloist Competition), guitarist Quinn Bachand (called “Canada’s top Celtic guitarist” by Ashley MacIsaac), and hammer-dulcimer wizard Simon Chrisman (acclaimed for bringing a new tonal flexibility to the instrument).
Prepare the senses for a high-speed dreamscape chase as Kittel & Co. (“Kid-dle and Koh”) presses the space between classical and acoustic roots, Celtic and bluegrass aesthetics, folk and jazz sensibilities.
Grand Teton Music Festival presents Kittel & Co, 7 p.m. Wednesday, March 18, at the Center Theater. $35-$50. JHCenterfortheArts.org.
