MOOSE, Wyo. — Around 5 p.m. on Tuesday, June 24, Grand Teton National Park (GTNP) rangers responded to reports of multiple high-end luxury sports cars drag racing in both lanes of Teton Park Road, creating dangerous conditions for other visitors.
According to GTNP, Teton Park Road is a scenic corridor heavily used by visitors, park employees and wildlife.
GTNP reported that park rangers located the group, and initiated traffic stops at several locations throughout the park, resulting in the arrest of four individuals. Twelve law enforcement rangers were involved in the operation. Two vehicles were impounded as part of the investigation.
“This kind of behavior is unsafe, irresponsible and completely unacceptable in a national park,” GTNP Superintendent Chip Jenkins said in a statement. “It puts visitors, staff and wildlife at serious risk.”
GTNP roads have reduced speed limits to protect wildlife, including bears, moose, elk and bison that often cross roads unexpectedly. Slower speeds also support safe recreation in an area that welcomes millions of visitors each year.
GTNP reminds visitors to recreate responsibly and to respect the safety of others. Park visitors must obey posted speed limits, and are advised to be alert for wildlife, cyclists and pedestrians. Travelers are to use pullouts for sightseeing and photos.
The incident remains under investigation and further charges are pending.
