GOBBLER’S KNOB, Pa. — Happy Groundhog Day! Pennsylvania’s very own Punxsutawney Phil poked his head out today, saw his shadow and declared six more weeks of winter to follow.

With weather resembling April temps forecast this week, and a high of 50°F predicted for Friday, it feels a little more like an early spring here in Jackson. Phil’s prediction feels appropriate for the East Coast, which has been hit by two large winter storms in the last few weeks.

The drier, warmer pattern will continue into early February, according to Buckrail meteorologist Alan Smith. Longer range models show the potential for snowstorms — and winter — to return later in February.
