CODY, Wyo. — State Rep. Rachel Williams has announced her campaign for Wyoming Secretary of State this week.

The Park County Republican was elected to the House in 2020 after a career as a law enforcement officer, she said. Williams, who is listed on the Wyoming Legislature website as Rep. Rodriguez-Williams, chairs the Wyoming Freedom Caucus and the House Labor, Health and Social Services Committee.

“As Wyoming’s chief election officer, the Secretary of State plays a vital role in ensuring our elections are secure, fair, and transparent, giving every voter full confidence in the process,” Williams said in her campaign announcement. “I plan to continue the work I started in the Wyoming House to protect the integrity of our elections and build lasting trust with Wyoming voters.”

Her platform includes keeping the state “‘open for business’ by aggressively reducing red tape, streamlining processes and preserving one of the nation’s lowest tax burdens,” she said. Her campaign website notes her support for the Second Amendment along with her anti-abortion track record.

“A fearless champion for life, Rachel holds the record for sponsoring the most pro-life legislation in Wyoming history,” Williams’ website reads. “She spearheaded the state’s trigger law that was activated following the overturning of Roe v. Wade and championed a groundbreaking measure protecting life from the moment of conception.”

Williams joins two other hopefuls in this race: Converse County Commissioner Robert Short (a Republican) and retired railwayman Bryan McCarty (a Democrat).
