JACSKON, Wyo. — Teton County Emergency Management will host a free four-day Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) basic training over the last two weekends of Sept.
The CERT training will teach participants disaster response skills. Those who complete the course receive a disaster response kit and have an opportunity to join the Teton County Community Emergency Response Team.
“CERT Basic Training gives participants the knowledge and skills to help themselves and to help others in the event of a catastrophic disaster or a smaller-scale emergency in their neighborhood or community,” said Emergency Management in a statement.
The training will involve a mix of classroom lectures and discussions and hands on experience. The course will cover topics including first aid, disaster psychology, fire safety and utility controls, light urban search and rescue operations and more.
The training requires a commitment of 32 hours spread across two weekends, with classes on Sept. 21 and 22 and the following weekend, Sept. 28 and 29. Participants must attend all four days to receive a certificate.
The course is open to anyone 18 years or older. Those interested in participating can apply here.
