STAR VALLEY, WYO – Some Star Valley residents have reported a shaky weekend, feeling a rolling sensation or bumping—especially those indoors in older buildings or on second and third stories.

The tremors are coming from a swarm of earthquakes centered around Soda Springs in Caribou County, Idaho. The quakes began Saturday night and have continued into today. To date, more than 80 earthquakes registering at least 2.5 magnitude have rocked the southeast Idaho region since the first to biggies alarmed nearly everyone in Caribou County and beyond.

It was Saturday afternoon at 4:55pm when a 4.3M tremblor let loose about 9 miles east of Soda Springs. A minute lates, another bigger quake was recorded about 10.5 miles east of Soda Springs, registering 5.3M.

These events triggered a series of quakes that has continued through this morning. A seismologist for USGS based in Boulder said swarms are not a rare event—especially in Yellowstone—but an extended event like this has not been seen in Idaho in recent memory.
