JACKSON, Wyo. — In honor of Sexual Assault Awareness Month, the Community Safety Network (CSN) will be offering free healing opportunities to those surviving from trauma.
This April 12 and May 3, the CSN will partner with Home Yoga and Medicine Wheel Wellness to provide alternative modalities, including a sound bath and a somatic workshop, focused on healing for survivors of sexual assault, as well as any trauma.
“Our responses to trauma are normal brain and body reactions to abnormal events,” the CSN said via press release. “How we respond during an incident and after are not choices – they are survival techniques stored in our deepest, oldest brain center. Healing from trauma is not linear, and takes extraordinary work, often requiring a nervous system reset.”
Medicine Wheel Wellness will lead a sound bath experience on Friday, April 12 from 6 to 7 p.m. According to Medicine Wheel Wellness Owner Francine Bartlett, the “meditative experience fills the room with the resonant sounds of pure quartz crystal sound bowls in specific notes and frequencies to shift brainwaves and create vibrations down to the cellular level for a calm mind and sense of peace.”
On Friday, May 3 from 5:30 to 7 p.m. at Home Yoga, Francesca Weikert will teach a somatic workshop for survivors of any trauma. According to Weikert, participants will be guided through movement, journaling, sensory exploration and meditation to explore establishing a sense of safety within.
“Through these guided somatic experiences, you will be able to transform stuck or heavy emotions to access a sense of flow,” Weikert said in the announcement. “You will leave with new awareness around psychosomatic education and a tool kit to utilize in your daily life.”
Both events are trauma-informed, and safety and confidentiality will be prioritized. There will be Spanish interpretation at both events, with CSN advocates available for support. Each event is limited to 20 people. To sign up, email abby@csnjh.org.
