WYOMING — A new candidate from Casper has emerged in the race for Wyoming’s lone U.S. House of Representatives seat that will be left open by Harriet Hageman as she runs for a spot in the U.S. Senate.

According to the Wyoming Tribune Eagle, U.S. Army veteran David Giralt announced his campaign via news release on Thursday. Giralt’s website states that his parents immigrated to the United States from Cuba and Costa Rica, and Giralt was born in 1991. After Hurricane Andrew, Giralt’s parents moved the family from south Florida to Wyoming and put down roots in Casper.

“I’m 100% pro-life, 100% pro-gun, and 100% pro-Trump,” Giralt states in his campaign video. His website lists other campaign priorities including Wyoming energy, the U.S.-Mexico border, agriculture and “backing President Trump.”

Giralt served 12 years in the Army, with two deployment tours. “But when I came home, I saw Washington elites failing Wyoming,” Giralt said in his campaign video, “failing our ranchers, failing our energy workers, and failing our families — all because they don’t see the consequences of their decisions.”

Giralt joins a full field of Republican hopefuls in this primary race. Confirmed candidates so far include current Wyoming Secretary of State Chuck Gray, entrepreneur Reid Rasner, former State Superintendent of Public Instruction Jillian Balow and Pinedale resident Matt McGinnis. The primary election will take place on Aug. 18.
