DRIGGS, Idaho — At 12 p.m. on Sunday, Aug. 24, the Caribou-Targhee National Forest (CTNF) issued a closure order for the Rim Trail Fire area on the Teton Basin Ranger District to help protect firefighters and the public. This order will be in effect until Oct. 24, at 12 p.m., unless rescinded.

The fire is burning on the CTNF near the Idaho/Wyoming border between Jackpine Creek and the McReynolds Reservoir. The closure includes forest roads 658, 809, 813 and forest trails 002, 010, 013, 015. Smoke could be visible from Teton Valley.

According to CTNF, entering the closed area, roads or trails is prohibited, with exceptions only for firefighters, law enforcement, rescue crews and those with specific Forest Service authorization.

On Saturday, Teton County Fire & Rescue wrote via Facebook that the Rim Trail Fire was mapped at 27 acres. A wildland fire module, two dozers and two engines were assigned to the wildfire. Swan Valley Helitack dropped buckets of water to assist with fire suppression efforts, and Sawtooth Interagency Hotshots were ordered. Firefighters worked to anchor and secure the west edge of the fire.

“Please avoid the area and give firefighters room to work,” Teton County Fire & Rescue wrote.

CTNF Forest Supervisor Kim Pierson wrote in the order that violations will result in a fine of not more than $5,000 for individuals and $10,000 for organizations, or by imprisonment for not more than six months, or both.
