JACKSON, Wyo. — And just like that, it’s already time to start thinking about wildfire preparedness again.

Bridger-Teton National Forest (BTNF) has announced spring and summer plans for prescribed fire operations in western Wyoming. BTNF will execute these plans as weather conditions permit. Be advised that these areas might be closed to the public for several days surrounding fire operations for public safety purposes. Warning signs will be placed along roads before and during prescribed fires. Burns are planned for the following areas:

  • Monument Ridge Rx Project – Nutting Draw Rx Unit, 3.5 miles southwest of Bondurant
  • Star Valley Front Rx Project – Unit 1: Hale Canyon, south of Afton to Dry Creek; and Unit 6: Dry Creek to north of Smoot
  • Teton to Snake Rx Project – Munger Mountain Rx Unit, five miles south of Jackson off Highway 191 near Evan Road; and Taylor Mountain Rx Unit, six miles southwest of Jackson off Fall Creek Road near Bronco Road
  • Upper Gros Ventre Rx Project – 25 miles northeast of Jackson in the area of Slate Creek and Haystack Fork

“We use prescribed fires to help reduce overgrown vegetation to help protect local communities, infrastructure and natural resources from wildfires,” BTNF’s project announcement states.

BTNF advised that residents could experience smoky conditions while burns are happening. Drivers should slow down and turn on headlights when smoke is present on roads.

Keep an eye on the BTNF website and social media channels for more detailed burn schedules.
