JACKSON, Wyo. — Labor Day weekend is here, so let’s talk about sloshies.

Sloshie culture is a big part of summer in Jackson. For the uninitiated: a sloshie is a slushie plus alcohol, usually a fruity beverage blended with ice. Sloshie-themed merch is available all over town, from sloshie vendors and from unrelated clothing stores. Some trucker hats even champion favorite flavors. Behold the sloshieconomy.

Some locals pledge allegiance to a single purveyor. Sidecar, for example, has a frequent-buyer program: buy 10 sloshies, get one free. Others will select a sloshie based on its proximity to whatever outdoor activity they have planned. A Hoback Market employee told Buckrail their sloshies were popular with river users.

“Some people we see twice in a day,” they said.

Note that not all sloshie vendors allow the alcoholic beverages to be taken off of the premises. Check with a business before making plans to pick up to-go beverages. Special shout-out to MovieWorks, where ticket holders ages 21 and up can grab a sloshie to enjoy during a screening.

Remember to enjoy responsibly!
