JACKSON, Wyo. — According to the Teton County Health Department (TCHD), April is Alcohol Awareness Month and focuses on educating communities about alcohol abuse and dependency.
Alcohol claims the lives of more than 140,000 people every year. Alcohol abuse has been identified as a topic of concern by Teton County Community Health Needs Assessment (CHNA) and rated as the top behavioral risk factor of concern in the Teton County Quality of Life Survey for both English and Spanish speakers.
The most recent data from the CHNA shows that Teton County is above the Wyoming state average for adults who binge drink. Binge drinking is defined as five or more drinks for men and four or more drinks for women during a single occasion.
The CHNA also shows that 46.4 percent of high school and 24 percent of middle school students in Teton County have reported using alcohol at least once within the prior 30 days.
According to the most recent statistics from the Wyoming Department of Transportation (WYDOT), two-thirds of car crash fatalities in Teton County involved alcohol or drug use.
TCHD recommends checking your alcohol use and learning about resources available here.
