JACKSON, Wyo. — Dozens of workers and shoppers waited outside of Albertsons on Monday afternoon after it was evacuated due to a law enforcement incident.

Emergency page-outs around 12:45 p.m. stated a man with a knife in the Albertsons parking lot had been reported to law enforcement. By the time Buckrail reached the scene at 12:53 p.m., the store had been evacuated. Numerous Jackson Police Department and Teton County Sheriff’s Office vehicles were present in the lot.

Jackson Police Department spokesperson Russ Ruschill told Buckrail there was no threat to public safety and that the person involved had been taken into custody. The store reopened to employees and customers at 1:15 p.m.

About an hour later, the Town of Jackson issued a press release stating that the individual in custody had been in “mental distress” in the grocery store, inflicting “self-harm before being transported to St. John’s hospital. The medical status of the suspect is currently unknown.”

“Less lethal munitions were deployed to subdue the suspect,” the release continues. “There is currently no threat to the public at large.”

This is a developing story. Buckrail will provide updates as information becomes available.
