STAR VALLEY, WYO – Lincoln County authorities have confirmed the death of an Afton teen Thursday, September 13.
Ryder Haderlie, 14, was involved in what authorities will only describe as an “incident” in the Star Valley High School parking lot Wednesday evening. He was life-flighted to Eastern Idaho Regional Medical Center and succumbed to his injuries early the next morning. A representative of the Afton Police Department would not go into detail about the nature of the injuries, calling it an “accident.”
Haderlie was a freshman at SVHS where family described him as a “’band kid’ through and through.” He played sousaphone in the school band.
A statement yesterday from Lincoln County School District #2 disclosed little about the incident.
“It is with deep regret that we inform you about a recent loss to our school community. On September 12, Ryder Haderlie, a 9th grade student at Star Valley High School was involved in an accident that resulted in the loss of life. This loss is sure to raise many emotions, concerns, and questions for our entire school district, especially our students,” the districted said in a press release.
The district has put in place a Crisis Intervention Team made up of professionals trained to help with the needs of students, parents, and school personnel at difficult times such as this. Counselors are available for any student who may need help dealing with the emotional loss.
