JACKSON, Wyo. — “Should have stuck with petticoat rulers,” read one sign at Jackson’s “No Kings” protest on Town Square on Saturday, June 14.

Protestors surrounded Town Square on two sides and spilled over to adjacent sidewalk corners on the sunny morning. An estimated five million people nationwide turned up for “No Kings” events, according to USA Today, with more than 2,000 events scheduled across all 50 states. The protest served as counter-programming to the military parade planned for the same day in Washington, D.C.

On Town Square, protest signs invoked Smokey Bear, Uncle Sam, national park rangers and more to express local dissent over the Trump administration’s decisions, particularly those regarding immigration enforcement and staffing cuts to public land agencies. One participant appeared to be dressed as the Grim Reaper.

In a distinctly Jackson scene, protestors were flanked by the stagecoach that circles town every summer, as well as members of the Jackson Police Department’s Citizen Mounted Unit
