Guest Teacher Tika Morgan Brings Global Rhythms to Jackson Hole

Tika Morgan

Tika Morgan Dance workshops and retreats are centered around dance as a way of life. Working primarily with Cuban and Brazilian dance from the sacred to the celebratory, from contemporary to folkloric, Tika is highly skilled at bringing in the larger context of these dance lineages while pointing back to their West African roots. Tika’s work is about embodying and celebrating the power available within us. She explores the extraordinary way our body language builds community as we move together. By working with traditional and popular movements, her work offers an opportunity to delve into discovering our body’s potential as we move. Participants are guided to explore, at any level, the interplay between form and freedom and the power of moving as one. Both reverent and joyous, dancers will experience historical and symbolic references for even the most basic steps so that we experience what she calls “dancing our human story” Dance is life!

Free community class: Reggaeton Fusion  Friday, Sept. 23: 6:30-8:30 p.m.

Tika created Reggaeton Fusion in 2010 and it has been wildly popular ever since! Participants will move to Reggaeton, Trap & DanceHall music while exploring the movement styles that inform Tika’s Fusion style. She pulls together moves intrinsic to the music while pointing back to their roots and putting you right inside the rhythm. Class features a lot of body isolation and hip work to enable dancers of any level to dance full out. Reggaeton Fusion will ask you to give it all you’ve got! Open to all!

Spice Up Your Skills on the Dance Floor!

Let’s face it: evenings are going to be getting colder pretty soon. Doesn’t mean your moves on the dance floor need to be anything but hot! Join Kirsten Klien and Ourdia Hodge for a five-week Salsa Cubana Workshop on Thursdays between Sept. 29 and Oct. 27.

Level 1: Our goal, first and foremost, is that participants in this class have fun while learning the fundamentals of Cuban salsa. We will work on rhythm, basic steps, turns, in short everything you need to get you moving on the dance floor outside of class. No partner is needed as we will switch partners throughout the class. An optional and free 15-minute practice will follow the lesson, so dancers can immediately implement what they just learned. Instructors will be available for questions during that period.

Level 2: This class is only open to dancers who are already at a good level in Cuban salsa rueda, and participation requires the instructor’s approval. If interested, please contact Dancers’ Workshop to be put in touch with an instructor.
