B-Side Players with opening DJ set from Jackson native SANDANFORD — If you encountered a whiff of cumbia, reggae, salsa, Afro-beat, and funk from San Diego’s B-Side Players, you’ve probably returned to the scene of the groove. The culturally rich dance-instigating unit is propelled by fierce polyrhythms and an uplifting vocal message emitting unity and consciousness. 9 p.m. at the Mangy Moose. $113. MangyMoose.com.
NYE Town Social: The Deadlocks with Melvin Seals, Kanika Moore, Jeremy Hoenig — Melvin Seals played keyboards for the Jerry Garcia Band for 15 years, from 1980 until Garcia’s death in 1995. He’s regarded as one of the world’s finest Hammond B-3 organists, known for blending authentic gospel, soul, and R&B sensibilities into improvisational rock and carrying the Garcia flame. Pre-JGB, Seals recorded and performed with legends such as Chuck Berry, Charlie Daniels and Elvin Bishop. Vocalist Kanika Moore has performed with the Grateful Dead’s Bill Kreutzmann, String Cheese Incident, and is frontwoman for electro-pop band Doom Flamingo.
