WYOMING — A fully vaccinated adult Park County resident has a confirmed case of measles, according to an announcement by the Wyoming Department of Health (WDH). This brings this year’s statewide case total to 15.

The afflicted person “had extensive exposure to measles while abroad and developed a mild illness” and was not hospitalized, per WDH. The agency noted that members of the public could have been exposed to infection at the following locations in Cody last week, since the measles virus can remain in the air for up to two hours after an infectious individual leaves an area:

  • Albertsons, 1825 17th St., Cody, WY 82414
    • December 15, 2025, 1:30 p.m. – 4 p.m.
    • December 17, 2025, 2:30 p.m. – 5 p.m.
  • Walmart, 321 Yellowstone Ave., Cody, WY 82414
    • December 18, 2025, 2:30 p.m. – 5 p.m.

Wyoming’s first case of measles since 2010 was identified this July in Natrona County. Since then, cases have been reported in Carbon, Fremont and Niobrara counties. The highly contagious virus can cause serious illnesses including pneumonia and encephalitis, which can lead to hospitalization and death. Symptoms of measles include fever, cough, runny nose, red or watery eyes and a rash that starts on the face and spreads down the body. People who get sick with these symptoms should call their healthcare provider for guidance.

WDH recommends that all Wyoming residents ensure that they and their children are up to date on the measles, mumps and rubella (MMR) vaccine, which provides highly effective and long-lasting protection against the virus.

“While it is rare for immunized individuals to develop measles infection, it can occur and typically results in milder illness compared to unvaccinated individuals,” WDH’s statement reads. “Of the 1,958 measles cases reported in the U.S. to date in 2025, 93% have been unvaccinated, 3% have received one dose of MMR, and 4% have received two doses of MMR.”
