Wyoming Public Radio awarded for Native American reporting

Wyoming Public Radio took home four awards in the National Native Media Awards competition and recognized two WPM reporters for their features.

WPM reporter Tennessee Watson won first place in Best Radio News for her story on the University of Wyoming’s efforts to increase Native American Representation on campus. Melodie Edwards placed second in the same category for her story on how Wind River tribes are combatting violence against women.

Edwards also won a 3rd place award for a story called “Father And Daughter Discuss Catholic Influence And Abuse On The Wind River Reservation,” and 2nd place in the “Best Radio Feature” category for her story “Matthew Shepard is Part of Our Tribe: The Two Spirit Movement On Wind River Reservation.”

“We have made covering Native American issues a priority,” said Wyoming Public Media News Director Bob Beck. “I’m pleased that Tennessee and Melodie have been honored for their fine reporting.”
