JACKSON, Wyo. – Teton County Commissioners took time out last week to recognize Dr. Dan Forman a 2019 “Teton County Board Volunteer of the Year” recipient during a board meeting. A second recipient is expected to be announced during a commissioner’s next month.
Calling volunteers “the cornerstone of the Teton County Boards and vital to raising awareness in the communities in which they live and work,” the county is recognizing volunteers on these boards for their hard work, along with two very special volunteers who are the recipients of the first-ever, “Teton County Board Volunteer of the Year.”
In conjunction with the new award is the Teton County Volunteer Board Open House—the first of its kind with the intent to highlight the county’s passionate volunteer’s hard work and to encourage members of the public to apply for board vacancies. Volunteers and/or staff from each county/joint board will be on hand to give members of the public insight on some of the initiatives their board is working on and to answer questions.
The open house is Friday, November 22 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Teton County Library. Lunch will be available to those attending. The deadline to apply for open seats is December 9, 2019.

Dr. Forman has been on the Teton District Board of Health since its inception in 2006. During that time, he has served as the vice chair for one term and the Board Chair for two terms, serving most recently in 2018-19.
Dr. Forman has also advised the Health Department on staffing decisions with the State Department of Health and has worked to establish a protocol for testing bats for rabies, which resulted in a quick turn-around for rabies prophylaxis for a local resident who had been bitten by a bat that tested positive for the disease.
In addition to his work with the Health Department, Dr. Forman has served on the boards of the Children’s Learning Center and the Teton Raptor Center. He a level one first responder through Homeland Security acts as the Teton County Emergency Vet during any local incident.
One of Dr. Forman’s most proud endeavors, though, is starting the Jackson Hole Police Canine Auxiliary, a 501c3 that helps provide police dogs to the Teton County Sheriff’s Department and the Jackson Hole Police Department. The K-9 unit currently consists of four dogs, two at the county and two at the town, but Dr. Forman says he hopes to add another dog to the town’s unit very soon.
More recently, Dr. Forman was appointed by the Teton County Board of County Commissioners as the Human Services Planning Core Committee as the “At Large Member.”
When Dr. Forman is not donating his time to service, he is running the Spring Creek Animal Hospital, which he started in 1992 with his wife MJ. They are both avid cyclists, hikers, skiers and enjoy all that living in Jackson Hole has to offer with his wife and two sons.
