Victims identified in fatal vehicle collision

JACKSON, WY — Wyoming Highway Patrol released the names of the two victims who were killed in a head-on collision in Grand Teton National Park yesterday.

At approximately 2:15 p.m. July 16, a Dodge Caravan driving south on N Highway 89 crossed the center lane into the north-bound lane and collided with a northbound Nissan Xterra. Neither vehicle had time to brake, Highway Patrol Lieutenant Matt Brackin said. The impact was fast and immediate.

Sixty-five-year-old Craig Aubuchon of Town and Country, Missouri was driving the Dodge Caravan. He was pronounced dead on the scene. Carol Roemer, 68, of Riverton, Wyoming, was driving the Nissan Xterra. She was pronounced dead upon arrival to the hospital.

The victims’ next of kin have been notified.

Four of the five surviving passengers from both vehicles were flown to Idaho for treatment. The fifth was treated at St. John’s Medical Center and released. As of last night, two passengers were in critical condition.

A crash team member is on his way here to gather more information on the vehicles. The cause of the accident is still uknown, Brackin said.
