Two small new fires detected this week

JACKSON, WY – Lightning from this week’s little storm cycle ignited two new fires.

The Porcupine Fire started Wednesday but was detected today by a homeowner living in the Munger Mountain area. The small 0.1-acre fire is smoldering in heavy timber and has moderate potential for growth. Due to the proximity of the fire to homes, the fire is being fully suppressed.

The Grey Hills Fire started Thursday by a lightning strike which had enough receptive vegetation at the base of the tree to smolder half a day before being detected by an ATV tour group riding in the area. It’s burning in the Gros Ventre/ Grey Hills area. One type 5 incident commander with a trainee off the Teton Helitack crew are suppressing the 0.2-acre fire with the support from the local interagency helicopter and its bucket for water drops.
