Town of Jackson and Jackson Hole Rodeo enter new concessionaire negotiations

JACKSON, Wyo. — The Jackson Town Council voted in favor of renegotiating their concessionaire agreement with the Jackson Hole Rodeo rather than put the rodeo concession out to bid.

The current agreement is set to expire on Sept. 30, 2021.

Jackson town staff and the Jackson Hole Rodeo will now begin to work on a new agreement to be presented to the Council no later than Oct. 31, 2021.

While the details will still need to be nailed down, the new agreement will be for a five-year term, rather than the traditional four-year term. The longer agreement is meant to align with the expiration of the Rodeo Grounds lease between the town of Jackson and Teton County. The lease expires on December 31, 2026.

According to public comment from Audrey Cohen-Davis, an attorney representing the concessionaire,  every rodeo this year has been sold out and the Jackosn Hole Rodeo is only one of three rodeos in the country that hold weekly rodeos.

The current concession agreement requires an annual payment to the town of $50,000 or 10% of gross receipts, whichever is greater. The town provides a maximum payment of $60,000 to Teton County (and no greater than the concession fee paid to the Town) through the Rodeo Grounds Management Agreement.

Teton County manages the grounds and acts as the town’s agent for the concession agreement.

According to a Town of Jackson staff report, The total concession fee received through the Concession Agreement in recent history was $145,348 in 2020, $129,037 in 2019  and $123,961 in 2018.
