Town Downhill moved out of town

JACKSON HOLE, WYO – Race organizers of the beloved Town Downhill announced this year’s event will move to the Jackson Hole Mountain Resort. It will be the first time in 36 years the race has not taken place on Snow King.

Jackson Hole Ski & Snowboard Club reps are blaming low snow conditions at Snow King as the reason the 2018 Fish Creek Excavation Town Downhill will be held at JHMR next weekend, March 9-11.

“We’re pleased JHMR stepped up to the plate to host this iconic event. There was simply not enough natural snow on the upper race venue at the King to hold the downhill this year,” stated Brian Krill, executive director of the JH Ski Club.

Racers will be competing on the Crags run at JHMR, and registration is available online at www.jhskiclub.org. This mountain race coincides with College Rendezvous weekend at JHMR, so there will be free outdoor concerts each afternoon post-race under the Aerial Tram.

The traditional event hosts divisions for Pro, Recreation, Telemark, Junior, Fat and Baggy and Snowboard. The event is the club’s way of recognizing that skiing—and ski racing—is truly a lifetime sport. Jackson Hole is one of the last places in the country to organize and support a non-sanctioned downhill race.
